SPEAKER: Jamie L. DeSisto, Esquire
Ms. DeSisto is a partner in the Baltimore office of Thomas, Thomas & Hafer, LLP, and the head of the Baltimore workers’ compensation practice. Her practice encompasses administrative, trial and appellate representation of self-insured employers, employers and insurers in Maryland and the District of Columbia. Prior to joining TT&H in 2008, she was employed as staff counsel for Zurich Insurance Company, working closely with claims partners in the defense of the insurance company and corporate insureds in workers’ compensation and civil liability cases in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Ms. DeSisto provides risk reduction and management advice to clients facing workers’ compensation claims. Ms. DeSisto frequently provides seminars for her clients on various topics addressing workers’ compensation law in Maryland and the District of Columbia, and has spoken at events providing CLE credit to participants. Her seventeen years of insurance defense experience is applied to complex cases bridging workers’ compensation, liability, and subrogation matters. She was recognized as a Maryland Super Lawyer in 2013 -2014.
MEETING INFORMATION:
Attendees will be provided information to assist them in understanding Compensability Determinations including fact investigation, types of compensable injuries, and identifying red flags for fraud, as well as the WCC Claim Process and the roles of the HR professional, the claims handler, and the attorney involved. There will also be a review of the overlap of WC/FMLA/ADA regarding coordination of benefits.
This meeting has been approved for 1 HR (General) recertification credits toward PHR, SPHR, and GPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute.
