The identification and mitigation of human capital risk is becoming an increasingly important topic for HR professionals, especially in light of recent dramatic events where the lack of appropriate operational controls (e.g., ongoing evaluation of employee probability of loss, managing outlier behaviors, mitigation of destructive disengagement, controlling for increase in stressors) has sometimes led to catastrophic consequences. This presentation will provide attendees with an understanding of human capital risk from two lenses. The first lens will examine how operational risk integrates within the human resources department of an organization. The second will be to define and develop suggested approaches to creating a human capital risk governance strategy across an enterprise. The learning will be delivered through both lecture and well as small group discussion. Objectives The one and a half hour presentation will provide the participant with a current state of practice understanding of the field of human capital risk, to include: 1) a series of working definitions 2) practical examples on how to identify human capital risk within an HR department and across an enterprise 3) mitigation strategies and tactics 4) an approach to corporate governance which links to operational risk/audit frameworks
