    About the Program and Presenters

    Today, the EEOC is taking a more aggressive approach to investigating claims of discrimination in the workplace. One of the best ways for employers to protect and defend themselves is to thoroughly investigate a complaint made internally before it even gets to the EEOC. During this session, employers will learn the important tools to conducting an internal investigation and the pitfalls to avoid. During the session, employers will learn:

    • Who should investigate the complaint;
    • Who should be interviewed during the investigation;
    • How should the interviews be recorded;
    • Who should communicate with the complainant;
    • Whether disciplinary actions should be taken;
    • What steps should be taken in cases where complaints are substantiated;
    • Should a complainant be disciplined if his/her complaints are not substantiated;
    • How to collect and retain relevant information for potential litigation; and
    • How to investigate wage and misclassification claims.

    Ariana Arnold is Of Counsel in the Baltimore Office of Jackson Lewis LLP. Ms. Arnold has litigated matters before state, federal and appellate courts for both public and private entities on a variety of labor and employment law issues, including employee grievances, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and breach of contract matters.

    Ms. Arnold has substantial court and appellate experience in a wide variety of employment, tort and contract matters and e-discovery issues amassed during her 11 year service as an Assistant United States Attorney in Baltimore from 2000 to 2011, prior to joining Jackson Lewis. She began her career at a prominent national law firm where she represented and advised private and government clients and educational institutions in various personnel and employment matters.

    Jennifer L. Curry is an Associate in the Baltimore office of Jackson Lewis LLP. Ms. Curry has litigation experience in the areas of labor and employment defense, general liability defense, and workers’ compensation defense, representing a wide array of state agencies and major corporations. Her litigation experience includes appearances in state and federal courts and agencies throughout the State of Maryland.

    Ms. Curry is admitted to practice law in Maryland state and federal courts, the D.C. Court of Appeals and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association and Bar Association of Baltimore City, as well as the Women’s Law Center of Maryland. Ms. Curry was selected for inclusion in 2013 Maryland Super Lawyers Rising Stars.
