    Connecticut SHRM State Council Webinar

    Please join us virtually for a 1-hour Webinar, The NLRB’s Expanding Reach to Non-Unionized Employers, presented by Michael Soltis and Jennifer Schancupp of Jackson Lewis P.C., on Wednesdy, February 18th, 2015 from 1pm - 2pm EST.

    As union organizing efforts have languished, the National Labor Relations Board has not been shy about making news with controversial decisions expanding its reach into non-unionized workplaces. Join us as attorneys from Jackson Lewis discuss subjects on which employers should expect NLRB action in the coming year and preventive measures employers can take to avoid NLRB scrutiny. The subjects we will discuss include:

    • The NLRB's presumption that employees may use an employer's email system to engage in discussion about the terms and condition of their work during non-working time;
    • The NLRB's expansive view of what constitutes an “employee” and “employer” from student athletes to franchisees;
    • Continuing challenges to seemingly innocuous handbook provisions such as at-will employment, standards of conduct, confidentiality and social media policies.

    We will also discuss the so-called Quickie Election Rule, designed to shorten the timeline for NLRB elections and minimize pre-election litigation. The rule is set to take effect on April 14, 2015 and is anticipated to provide a boost to union organizing efforts.
