    Connecticut SHRM State Council Webinar

Please join us virtually for a 1-hour Webinar, The Paid Sick Leave Megatrend, presented by Michael Soltis, Office Managing Shareholder, and Jennifer Schancupp, Of Council, from Jackson Lewis on Tuesday, May 12th, 2015 from 1pm - 2pm EST.

Mandatory paid sick laws are changing the leave management landscape, and quickly. A year ago, nine jurisdictions required employers to provide paid sick leave. Now, there are more than 20 jurisdictions. The U.S. Department of Labor’s recent “Lead on Leave” initiative encourages other states and cities to join this trend. Many will heed the call.

The legal landscape for managing leaves has become incredibly complex. Employers must consider federal and state disability discrimination laws; federal and state family and medical leave laws; pregnancy accommodation laws; workers compensation laws, and more. PSL laws add to this already daunting challenge. These new laws require employers give little or no guidance on how PSL interacts with all of the other various leave laws.

Join us as attorneys from Jackson Lewis discuss the issues structure and substance of PSL laws, their affect on existing PTO and other paid time programs, and the approaches employers are taking to comply. This webinar will address:

    • The jurisdictions that have enacted PSL laws, and the jurisdictions that have banned them
    • The definition of a covered employer and covered employee
    • The expanded definitions of “family member” and uses for which an employee may use paid sick leave
    • “Carryover” rules
    • Options to meet employer’s compliance obligations.

THIS WEBINAR HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR 1 HRCI GENERAL CREDIT AND 1 SHRM PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CREDIT
