    Jen Berman, an expert on ERISA and health care legislation, will discuss the history of the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare, and the changing face of health care law.
    We'll discuss how the original law was formed, what it looks like today, and the evolving new legislation that will eventually replace ObamaCare and what that means for employers.
    She will also provide the latest perspective on key topics about the Affordable Care Act, including the individual mandate, the employer mandate, and its impact on employer-sponsored health care.

    Jennifer Spiegel Berman, JD officially joined the KELLY team in 2016
    after many years serving as a trusted resource to the organization and its
    clients. In her dual roles as Senior Vice President Compliance and ERISA
    Counsel, Jen consults with KELLY’s clients regarding ongoing employee
    benefit compliance issues. Jen also works with the consulting and account
    management teams to help design and implement innovate benefit
    strategies within the confines of the many applicable legal requirements
    now impacting employee benefit plans; including the Internal Revenue
    Code, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, wellness plan rules and other
    applicable statutes.

    Jen is a leader in analyzing health care reform developments and
    frequently serves as a speaker and commentator on a wide variety of
    health care reform and employee benefits issues. Jen also leads the
    KELLY compliance department, a team of professionals focused on
    ensuring KELLY’s clients are up-to-date on the latest compliance news
    and assisting them with compliance issues.

    Jen brings with her to KELLY a decade’s worth of experience in private
    legal practice. While actively practicing law at both Venable LLP and
    Holder Law Group LLC, Jen directly advised employers on the design
    and implementation of their benefit programs. As legal counsel, Jen
    routinely negotiated service contracts and drafted employee benefit
    plans, summary plan descriptions and employee communications. She
    also has experience advising covered entities and business associates
    on HIPAA and HITECH compliance matters, including developing and
    updating privacy and security policies, business associate agreements and
    notification of breach protocols.

    Jen was named to the 2014, 2015 & 2016 Maryland Rising Stars List by
    Super Lawyers Magazine in the area of employee benefits and executive
    compensation. She is a member of the Baltimore Association of Health
    Underwriters and the Maryland Association of Health Underwriters.
    Jennifer graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania
    Law School in 2006, where she was Editor-in- Chief of the University
    of Pennsylvania Journal of Labor and Employment Law. Jennifer also
    completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania,
    graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science.
    Jennifer is admitted to practice in Maryland and Washington, D.C. She
    lives in Baltimore, MD with her husband Josh and their two children.
