    Strategic Thinking and Planning

    The great management thinker Peter Drucker wrote: “Follow effective action with quietreflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action.” In this dynamic and experiential workshop, participants will both engage in effective action and quiet reflection as they learn several essential tools of strategic thinking and planning drawn from emerging Agile practices. Strategic planning and thinking require us to move beyond the traditional “management by objective” and move toward a flexible and responsive approach to planning that the traditional “waterfall” approach does not offer. As our businesses and organizations struggle to keep up with the evolving needs of our employees, customers and communities, it is those that harness the power of deep strategic thinking and planning that will have the competitive advantage.

     Outcomes –

    1.      Design a systems thinking map to visualize how all the elements of a strategic plan interact with the other elements.

    2.      Complete a RAID log (Risks – Assumptions – Issues – Dependencies) to uncover hidden problems and unconsidered scenarios.

    3.      Plan a project through rapid prototyping and radical collaboration techniques.

    4.      Estimate the scope and size of projects through an intuitive and collaborative process.

    5.      Learn a retrospective and change management technique to help understand the “human side” of strategic planning.

    Speaker Information:

    Rob Levit is a gifted teacher, trainer and facilitator known for his engaging and interactive approach. His areas of expertise include creativity, innovation, strategy, personal/group productivity and emotional intelligence. Rob has provided keynotes, trainings and facilitations for a wide array of organizations including Anne Arundel Medical Center, The World Bank, Georgia Nurses Association, Maryland Fund for Excellence, Heim Lantz, The New Jersey Hospital Association, Leadership Development Institute, Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Chrysler, Northwestern Mutual, the TEACH Institute, Hospice of the Chesapeake and many more.

    Rob is a multi-award winning nonprofit leader including the 2011 Martin Luther King Peacemaker Award, 2012 Mentor of the Year Award and a 2013 Innovator of the Year Award from The Maryland Daily Record as well as two Community Trustee awards from Leadership Anne Arundel. Rob is also a Licensed Consultant from The Standards for Excellence Institute® (the authoritative thought leader on nonprofit governance, leadership and best practices), a Certified Coach from The HeartMath© Institute and holds an Executive Leadership Certificate from Cornell University.

    In a former lifetime, Rob was a nationally-renowned jazz musician and composer who performed with artists from Indonesia, Germany, India, Malaysia, Tuva, Angola, Tibet and The Philippines through a fellowship at UCLA’s Center for Intercultural Performance and World Festival of Sacred Music. He was the recipient of numerous Individual Artist Awards from the Maryland State Arts Council, the Annie Award for performing arts from the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County and a Baker Artist Award from the Baker Foundation, Baltimore, Maryland.
