    The Use and Abuse of Doctor’s Notes in the Workplace

    Join us virtually on Friday, March 21, from 9 - 10 am, as attorneys from Jackson Lewis LLP discuss whether, when and how an employer may lawfully request or require doctor’s notes from an employee, including the following instances:

    • Medical certifications to determine if a leave is FMLA qualified;

    • Requesting a doctor’s note as part of the process of accommodating an employee’s disability under the ADA;

    • The permissible use of doctor’s notes to verify an employee’s absence under call-in or call-out policies; and

    • The limits of an employer’s ability to require employees to disclose medical information upon returning from sick leave.

    We will also discuss the privacy implications of requesting doctor’s notes and medical records.

    This program has been submitted for recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute.
