Maryland SHRM State Council Wins 2021 SHRM Pinnacle Award!
Maryland SHRM State Council Wins SHRM Pinnacle Award for Exceptional HR Program
[Maryland, 11/11/2021] — Today, SHRM (the Society for Human Resource Management) awarded Maryland SHRM State Council (MDSHRM) the 2021 Pinnacle Award in recognition of its high achievements advancing the profession of human resources.
The Pinnacle Award is the most prestigious honor SHRM state councils and chapters can receive. Created in 1991, it recognizes innovative projects created and implemented by SHRM affiliates. Maryland SHRM State Council was one of 12 human resource organizations—out of more than 600 —from across the country to win the award in 2021.
“SHRM affiliates are leading the way in reinventing the world of work,” said SHRM President and CEO, Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP. “By pioneering educational programs, creating inclusive cultures, and increasing the workforce readiness of underserved and underemployed populations, each SHRM chapter and state council winner helped to lift up their community.”
“As the Maryland State Council Director, I am so proud of the efforts of the many who made this possible. I know it has taken several years, but together we made it possible. Awesome Team!”-Kim Wines, State Council Director
MDSHRM’s Pinnacle Award Winning Program: “Workplace Violence- Peace Orders” With an increase of workplace shootings and violence, “Workplace Violence-Peace Orders” became the mission of the Maryland SHRM State Council. In partnership with the Maryland Nurses Association, the Maryland Hospital Association, and the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, the Maryland SHRM State Council led the movement that resulted in a new law being signed by Governor Larry Hogan, effective October 2021. The law helps remove barriers an employer can experience when protecting its workplace from the threat of imminent harm. As a result of this public victory, the Maryland SHRM State Council inspired many other Maryland SHRM chapters and the HR legislative advocates to engage in government and advocacy.
Winning programs, selected from 70 applications, receive a $1,000 prize given by Raymond James, which is the sponsor of this year’s Pinnacle Awards. The awardees were recognized at SHRM’s Volunteer Leaders Business Meeting, live online November 10-12.
